Travelling

So I want to travel around a bit during my holidays if I get funding for university. Just for a week or two, just to closer by and thus not as expensive Asian countries. Later on I’d like to spend some years in New York, cos it’s awesome, and Barcelona, cos it’s beautiful and for the football, and Ukraine or Sweden with the very beautiful women and the climate, and Brazil, cos it’s Brazil… okay, to stop, my point being, for now I can only just travel cheap and nearby for short spells. So I’m fantasizing about travelling with some actual numbers to while the time away.

Cost of travelling to Japan:

For two travelers on a medium budget, about 15k Yen or $200 per day for accommodation, food, sightseeing and travel. So if I go with a friend and we go for about ten days, about $1000 each.

From http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e2410.html

Can’t estimate ticket prices, but if I book months ahead from AirAsia it seems under $200 for return.

Cost of travelling to Korea:

Says a budget of about 100k won or $95 per day per person would be realistic. So again, for about ten days of travel, about $1000 each.

From http://www.lonelyplanet.com/south-korea/practical-information/money-costs

Can’t estimate ticket prices, but if I book months ahead from AirAsia it seems under $200.

Cost of travelling to Philippines:

A budget of about P1950 per day which is supposedly around $50 per day per person is considered a realistic budget. So for about ten days of travel, $500?

From http://www.lonelyplanet.com/philippines/practical-information/money-costs

Same re: ticket prices as before for all places in Asia.

Cost of travelling to Indonesia:

Budget for about $40 per day, so ten days would be $400 again.

From http://www.lonelyplanet.com/indonesia/practical-information/money-costs

Air Asia ticket prices from Malaysia to Indonesia can be as low as $70 return.

So how much I need to save for four Asian holiday trips:

About a total of a bit under $4000 for all four trips. I have about $1250 saved up from work so far.

EDIT: I should have another $700 from web design competitions prize money, so make that total about $2000 saved up.

Looking up at the stars with someone is something you’d expect to be really romantic or something. It would just make me feel terribly lonely. You’ll look up at something billions of miles away that you’re seeing from thousands of years in the past, and it makes you think about all sorts of things. But what I’d think about is how you can only see or interact with anyone as themselves from a microsecond in the past. There is no human on thing on Earth which you can see in the same present you’re in right now, only them as they were a tiny fraction of a second before; so in whichever present you’re in, you’re always completely and irrevocably alone. That’s what physics says.

“People love to come up with reasons why it’s not a great time to take a vacation, but you know what: if you wait until everything in your life is absolutely perfect before you take that trip/buy that house/talk to that girl/get in shape/have a baby, well, you’ll wake up old and wrinkled one day and wonder where it was you made a wrong turn. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll come to the depressing conclusion that it wasn’t a wrong turn you took anywhere along the way, but rather it was your reluctance to make any turn at all.” —Law School Dropout’s Poker Blog (via myadolescenceispersonified)

President Abbas visits the Club

www.fcbarcelona.cat

The President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmud Abbas this morning visited the Camp Nou, accompanied by the Club’s Institutional Area Vice-President Carles Vilarrubí.

As part of his tour of Europe to visit a number of institutions, the President of the Palestinian National Authority Mahmud Abbas visited the Camp Nou this morning. Mr Abbas was met at gate 15 of the Stadium at 11.30 this morning by the Club’s Institutional Area Vice-President Carles Vilarrubí and the two then moved inside the Camp Nou where the President gave a short speech.

”Honour”

Abbas explained he was “full of honour and happiness for the hospitality Barça have shown to me. This is a Club with a wide recognition. FC Barcelona represents a civilisation and a people with good values and that can always be seen. I would love them to visit Palestine one day to play a game”.

Vilarrubí: “Barça is a window onto the Catalan society”

Replying, Sr Vilarrubí responded to the President’s visit by declaring: “it has been an honour. FC Barcelona represents a window through which people can see the Catalan feeling – the way a whole people feels. This is a special moment for the Club as we are enjoying such great success. Barça share the values of peace, living together, sport and civil society with the Palestinian people ”

Visit to the Club Museum

Abbas and Vilarrubí exchanged various gifts, including two shirts for the President’s grandchildren who accompanied him on the visit. Mr Abbas then signed the Club’s book of honour and then visited the Museum with Sr Vilarrubí to see the 16 titles won by the Club’s various teams last season.

I don’t know anything about Abbas to judge, but I am glad that my FC Barcelona does stick to their principles about Catalan independence in not just name but spirit and shows solidarity to the Palestinian cause.
